Restore General Assistance NOW!
We, the undersigned, demand that state legislators get to work immediately to reinstate the programmatic efforts of the General Assistance Program.
This program, which provided a measly $205 to some of the most vulnerable people in our communities, and which was largely reimbursed by the federal government at a later date, was a lifeline for people whose lives matter. Their ability to survive, to live a life of basic dignity, their right to be able to afford basic toiletry items or purchase a bus pass to go on a job interview, are the exact types of investments that our government should be making, to give people a chance to make a better life than they've been handed.
People like Mr. Boyd, whose story was read by Senator Muth on the Senate floor, are incredible. They face the toughest odds imaginable and they get up every day and continue to try. It's time for our state government to have that attitude.
